Creating open educational resources is an emergent area for Deakin University. Stimulated by previous collaborative projects, a cross-divisional team formed around a new experience of OER design. Specifically, their aim was to create an interactive textbook focused on play-based teaching and learning that embodied an emergent Peopling Technologies philosophy (David & Cain, 2021).

Holistic design grounded this project for both learning goals and the people involved in producing the book. Domain specialists were brought together to build a digital learning resource that supports the learning experience. Innovative, pedagogically sound outcomes required a polyvocality through diverse collaboration and co-design. Initially supported by a Deakin OER seeding grant, the editorial and production teams also valued professional learnings and future applications as a sustaining factor for long-cycle creative projects.
