Library Design System
Deakin University Library
Concept, visual design lead, UX, creation and implementation, advocacy and maintenance
The Library Design System includes principles, guidelines and reusable design elements for use across the library's digital ecosystem.
The design system is there to help all library staff create and maintain better experiences for our students and researchers. Designers, developers and content creators can use it to:
design and build interfaces aligned to university and library brand
manage consistency across different library platforms and experiences
avoid creating bespoke solutions, or starting from scratch
speed up the design and build process
It has a collection of interface elements that can be reused across the library’s digital ecosystem. Each component includes:
Links to Deakin global component information where available
Library-specific examples so you can see the component in action
Code or downloadable files/file locations to access the component
Best practices and guidelines to use the component correctly
My initial responsibility in the project was to lead the development of the library staff section of the design system. This expanded to include coordinating the transition of the Design System content from Wordpress CMS to Squiz CMS and coordinating the Library Design System release schedule.
